VinFast Reveals First Pickup Truck Concept Inspired By Superhero Costumes

The concept looks amazing and has a huge bed, but more important details remain a mystery.

Vietnamese carmaker VinFast has debuted a preview of its first-ever pick-up truck at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. The truck concept, which goes by the name VinFast VF Wild, was designed by a third party. Unlike the Pininfarina-designed VF 8, this was penned by an Australian firm called GoMotiv.

With a body measuring 209 inches long and 79 inches wide, the VF Wild slots in the mid-size category just like the Ford Ranger and the upcoming Kia Tasman.

Regarding its looks, the VF Wild gets the signature VinFast front end paired with rugged and angular details. According to the company, its design was developed for 8,000 hours using the “Fluid Dynamism” aesthetic, which is said to be inspired by a superhero’s cape flowing in the wind.

The VF Wild’s beefy front bumper, skid plate, and angular rear portion are particularly eye-catching. It also assumes a wide authoritative stance, somewhat contrasted by its smooth roofline. The doors also don’t get a speck of character lines, but as mentioned, those are concentrated on the front and rear of the vehicle.

A key exterior feature of the concept is its five-foot-long carbon bed equipped with a folding mid-gate. With the automatically folding rear seats tucked down, VinFast says the truck has a class-leading bed length of eight feet, beating the single-cab Ranger by two feet.

At the moment, the truck’s mechanical specs remain a mystery, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to find the VinFast VF 9’s 402-horsepower electric powertrain, although this would not be enough for hardcore truck work unless this EV is abnormally light.

The VF Wild’s interior looks rather fancy for a pickup truck (even for a concept). It gets suicide doors, a futuristic-looking dashboard, and a huge windshield that wraps above the first-row seats. It isn’t a convertible truck, but its view of the sky is expansive, thanks to all that glass. Plenty of interior surfaces also incorporate what appears to be Nubuck leather.

While this is certainly an unusual design, we do see traces of the GMC Hummer EV Pickup in the overall shape, particularly the nose and its full-width light bar.

It is unknown when the company will release a production version and if it will be available in the US. Do note, though, that VinFast is building a factory in North Carolina, which would allow VinFast to avoid the tariff on light truck imports.
