Traxxas Raptor R Is A Tough Mini Off-Roader For Those Who Can't Afford The Real Thing

It’s got all good stuff from the Raptor R, but on a smaller scale.

Traxxas has introduced its newest member to its Pro Scale lineup, the new Ford F-150 Raptor R mini RC. Like the actual off-roader, this miniature version can handle any high-speed off-roading situation with its robust construction and purpose-built suspension.

While it’s no electric Ford Bronco your kids can ride, the RC car carries a Ford-licensed body and comes with the same 4×4 off-roading prowess and power of the real deal but on a miniature scale. It also has molded replica parts for maximum scale authenticity. A Velineon brushless motor powers the mini RC car with a heavy-duty 4WD driveline, giving the mini Raptor R performance credentials to match its rugged looks – it just lacks the V8 noise of the real thing.

The RC Raptor R has a clipless body that can handle speeds of over 60 mph and handle all the use and abuse of high-flying stunts. Despite this, the body holds on to the chassis tightly yet can be released quickly to access the innards of the RC car. The hidden latching system maximizes convenience and scale realism by giving the radio-controlled vehicle clean body lines. It measures 24.98 inches long and 8.91 inches tall. It’s as tough as a toy Mercedes-Benz G Class that can take on jumps and more.

A 3,500 kV Velineon brushless motor powers the mini Raptor R with a VXL-3s speed controller. It also has two tire options in a 3.0-inch or a 2.2-inch configuration. As for its controller, it has a two-channel radio system with a 2.4 GHz transmitter with a TSM receiver.

The mini Raptor R can be had in five different configurations depending on the skill level. The entry-level variant can travel up to 35+ mph, with the other variants slowly ramping from 40 to 45 mph. These come with various battery pack options, with the lower variants getting a 7-Cell NiMH pack, while the higher models get a 2s LiPo or a 3s LiPo pack. These higher variants can travel above 45+ mph, while the top-spec model can travel above 60 mph.

Traxxas also offers several charging options with the entry-level four-amp unit, the mid-tier 12-amp unit with Bluetooth, and the dual charger with four- and eight-amp options. While it is not as powerful as the Ferrari Purosangue-challenging Raptor R, the little RC is still quite potent in its own right, reaching high speeds in a small package.

The Traxxas Ford Raptor R RC off-roader is priced at $529.95, making it vastly more affordable than the F-150 Raptor R’s circa-six-figure price tag.
