One-Of-50 Ford Bronco DR Appears For Sale
If you’re among those who didn’t get the chance to buy a Ford Bronco DR over two years ago, a rare chance to snag one has now come about. A Bronco Desert Runner has come up for sale on Bring a Trailer for the first time, and it’s one of only 50 units produced.
This is the ultimate version of the Bronco SUV, built and developed by Ford and Multimatic Motorsports to conquer the dirt tracks of the Baja 1000. This particular unit for sale has fiberglass body panels finished in a color-shifting Mystichrome paint. It also comes with the Baja package, which includes a siren, two LED light bars, and Rigid Industries rock lights.
To suit the widebody treatment , the Bronco DR comes with black-finished 17-inch wheels with silver bead locks. They are wrapped in 37×12.5-inch BFGoodrich competition-use tires, hiding the vented disc brakes with Alcon calipers.
To fulfill its rock and dirt-conquering duties, the Bronco DR’s chassis is reinforced, and skid plates are installed. It also has Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV dampers, high-performance off-road stability suspension, and billet aluminum lower control arms. The setup allows for 15.8 inches of suspension travel at the front and 17.4 inches at the rear. Ground clearance is 11.8 inches.
The Bronco DR is off-road racing-ready, so it has a pair of black vinyl Recaro Pro Racer ORV-XL seats with Sparco safety harnesses. Other competition-specific toys found in the cabin are MoTeC data acquisition system with a device control panel, a reverse-view camera, driver ventilation, Safecraft window nets, a Kenwood two-way radio, a PCI intercom system, a Tilton pedal box and brake bias controller, a Blue Sea Systems power cutoff switch, Lowrance navigation, and a Ford Performance-branded Sparco flat-bottom steering wheel mounted on a quick-release hub. The MoTeC C187 display also shows essential information as you cruise at speed in the desert.
Unlike the V6-powered Bronco Raptor that won the 2023 Baja 1000, the Bronco DR has a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in its hood, producing up to 400 horsepower. Power is delivered to the wheels via a 10R80 transmission and electric transfer case from the F-150. It also has independent electronically locking front and rear differentials, while the final drive ratio is 4.70:1, making the most of the Coyote V8’s torque.
As pristine-looking as this Bronco DR is in the photos, the total mileage of the unit is unknown since it doesn’t have an odometer. As an off-road-only creation, it’s not street-legal, but that’s part of its appeal.
If you’re keen to snag the opportunity to own one of the only 50 existing Bronco DR units, you have four days before the hammer falls, with the bid already at $188,000 at the time of this writing. We’ll wager this will go higher in the next few days, considering that this off-road toy had an original sticker price above $200,000.
