NACTOY Reveals Car, Truck, And SUV Of The Year 2024

The winners include a hybrid, an EV, and good old fashioned internal combustion.

Winners have been announced for the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) in 2024. The winners for 2023 included the Acura Integra, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Kia EV6. This year featured some interesting debacles, including the Volvo EX30 losing its eligibility due to not going on sale in time, meaning that all three finalists in the SUV category all came from the Hyundai Motor Group.

The car finalists included the Honda Accord, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and the Toyota Prius/Prius Prime. As for the trucks, the Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and Ford Super Duty made the cut. Finally, the SUV of the year finalists were the Genesis Electrified GV70, Kia EV9, and Hyundai Kona/Kona EV. Without further ado, here are the winners, which include a gas, hybrid, and electric vehicle.

The 2023 Toyota Prius (and Prius Prime) is the 2024 NACTOY Car of the Year. We could sense this one coming from a mile away, as the Prius also won the CarBuzz Save The Planet Award in 2023. Toyota always deserved credit for selling one of the most efficient hybrid cars on the market, but now it finally looks good. The all-new Prius drives better than before, keeps the same efficiency, and gains a massive boost in performance with up to 196 horsepower (220 hp in the Prius Prime). Driving a Prius is no longer a sacrifice you make to save money, it’s a genuinely great car.

Just one year after the Ford F-150 Lightning took home Truck of the Year, the 2024 Ford Super Duty is crowned the 2024 winner. The Super Duty was already a great heavy duty option, but it was recently updated with class-leading power and towing specifications. Ford’s workhorse produces up to 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque from its available 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 with the ability to pull up to 40,000 pounds. Excellent capability combined with high-tech towing tech such as cameras and an onboard scale make the Super Duty one of the most effective work trucks money can buy.

Last but not least, the 2024 Kia EV9 takes the win as the 2024 NACTOY SUV of the Year. Though it just went on sale, it’s easy to see why the EV9 is already wracking up awards. The Telluride won this same award in 2020, and the EV6 took it home just last year. The EV6 takes what worked in the EV6 and scales it up to a larger three-row shape. With the E-GMP platform, the EV9 boasts an 800-volt charging architecture, up to 304 miles of range, and 379 horsepower in GT-Line guise. Kia hopes the EV9 will do for electric SUVs what the Telluride did for the brand just a few years ago.
