Ford F-Series Streaks Ahead Of Fiercest Rival In 2023 Sales Race
The Blue Oval says F-Series truck sales are 118,000 units ahead of the Chevy Silverado.
Ford has released its latest sales statistics for the second quarter of 2023. The Blue Oval has posted incredible figures, pointing out that its F-Series lineup of trucks is far ahead of its fiercest rival, the Chevrolet’s Silverado.
In the second quarter, the F-Series had a total market share of nearly 36%, up by nearly five full percentage points over last year. Q2 2023 F-Series sales are up 34% to 212,516 trucks, while first-half sales (382,893) increased by 27.9%. According to the automaker, the F-Series has now created a gap of 118,000 units between it and the Silverado lineup.
The automaker says that Q2 truck sales skyrocketed by 26.2% compared to the same period last year, thanks to improved inventory flow. For the first half of 2023, 549,625 Ford trucks (all models) were delivered to customers (+23.1%) – outselling GM’s truck and van lineup by around 61,000 units.
Overall, Ford is the best-selling truck maker in America for six consecutive months in 2023.
Combined sales of the F-Series, Ranger, and Maverick totaled 246,155 trucks in Q2 of this year, representing a 26.7% increase over a year ago. With the new Ranger on the horizon, we’re guessing the automaker will post even stronger truck sales next year.
F-150 Lightning sales increased by 119% in quarter two, but the automaker has not shared specific figures for the electric truck. Ford says 50% of Lightning customers are new to the brand. 2023 year-to-date figures show Ford EV sales grew by 11.9%, while June EV sales rose by 35.5%.
Speaking of electric vehicles, the Mustang Mach-E saw a sudden uptick towards the end of Q2, with June sales up 110% compared to the same period last year.
On the commercial vehicle front, Ford shifted 32,031 examples of the Transit in Q2. Sales of the E-Series vans rose by 63.7% in Q2 and 55% this year.
Ford’s premium brand Lincoln also posted positive sales figures. 4,688 Navigators left showroom floors in the second quarter, representing a 20.1% increase. Corsair and Nautilus sales soared in June, with percentage increases of 27% and 58.5%, respectively. The company has shared that BlueCruise has passed the 90-million mile mark under customer driving.
“Ford achieved both best-selling brand and truck for six consecutive months this year on the strength of F-Series, vans, our new Escape and F-150 Lightning,” said Andrew Frick, vice president, sales distribution, and trucks. “Our EV sales continue to grow. Improved Mustang Mach-E inventory flow began to hit at the end of Q2 following the retooling of our plant earlier this year, which helped Mustang Mach-E sales climb 110 percent in June.”
