Longtime CarBuzz reader Mike Miller reached out to us this week to present his wild creation, called the Atlas Armored Personnel Carrier by Goat Tactical. This is a Ford F550-based monster inspired by the famous Oshkosh Defense JLTV, but unlike that car, this is street-legal. You’d never know that by looking at it because it has all the subtlety of a machete, but that’s okay because those looks are not just for posturing. In fact, the truck is constructed with B6 ballistic steel as standard and comes with battle locks, three-inch ballistic window glass, nine armored gun ports, and a roof hatch. Optionally, this hatch can be replaced by a turret. As Goat Tactical says, “Cool Raptor, bro.”

Some of the toughest armored vehicles come from SVI in South Africa, but this one is built right here in the USA, specifically in Boise, Idaho.

You also get exterior lighting, a roof-mounted spare tire, shielding from electromagnetic pulses, inverted doors, a siren & PA system, engine & radiator protection, and an additional HVAC system, protecting one from the fumes of a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

As we mentioned, this is based on a Ford truck, so it comes with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel engine feeding all four wheels through the standard 10-speed automatic. 330 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm motivates a package with a curb weight of 17,196 pounds, with a 3,306-lb payload.

With a 39-gallon fuel tank, a 400-mile range should be possible, but the top speed is only as high as 90 mph.

Impressively, the four-wheel-drive truck has 13.4-inches of ground clearance (don’t worry, the underbelly is protected, too), and the Atlas APC can ford depths of 31.5 inches. It can also handle driving up inclines of up to 31 degrees, and a 16.7-degree side slope is also possible. As for protection from artillery, the standard B6 package can handle anything from a .38 special to a 5.56x45mm AR-15 round. Optionally, B7 protection can offer targeted protection from a .50 caliber round.

The standard seating configuration has three chairs up front and two benches in the back, but myriad customization and packaging options are offered, including totally bespoke setups per the customer’s desires.

Pricing starts at $395,000, with options including leather upholstery, custom paint, 360-degree LED lighting, custom suspension, and more. A pickup truck version is available too.
