Your 2024 North American Car, Truck, And Utility Vehicle Of The Year Finalists Are…
Announced at the LA Auto Show, these cars and trucks will be vying for America’s top honors.
The finalists for the 2024 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards have been announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show. There’s an emphasis on electric vehicles (EVs) again this year, with five of nine finalists being pure battery-electric vehicles and a further two at least available with hybridization of some sort.
Divided into three categories (Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicles), three finalists per category have been announced. The finalists for each category are as follows:
North American Car of the Year:
North American Utility Vehicle of the Year:
North American Truck of the Year:
The Detroit Three automakers – Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis – found themselves without any finalist vehicles in two categories, which may be cause for concern for American OEMs. However, Ford and Chevrolet have a strong showing in the Truck of the Year category, showcasing where these brands are most dominant in the American market.
One noteworthy trend is the dominance of electric vehicles like last year. With changing legislation and pressure on automakers to go electric by various governing bodies worldwide, electrification is becoming mainstream, with hybrid options now being part of mainstream lineups. The Accord, for example, has hybrid power for its upper trims.
“Electric vehicles again make up more than half of our finalists. That shows how important they are to carmakers and how many more choices car buyers now have,” said NACTOY President Jeff Gilbert.
The strong field of nine finalists is all pretty impressive. Two of them, the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Prius/Prius Prime, walked away as winners in the 2023 CarBuzz Awards, taking top honors in the Off-Road Warrior and Save The Planet categories, respectively.
The NACTOY Awards are decided by an independent jury of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. The 2024 finalists are selected from 25 candidates that went through a rigorous evaluation process during the Fall Comparison Drive in October. They were voted on based on various criteria, including innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, user experience, and value.
The winners of the 2024 NACTOY Awards will be unveiled on January 4, 2024, at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. The 2023 NACTOY winners were the Acura Integra, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Kia EV6.
