Godzilla-Powered Classic Ford Bronco Is A Dream SUV Build

The owner wanted the best of both worlds with a valved exhaust that can be quieted with a press of a button.

While Coyote V8-powered classic Broncos aren’t new, some builders take it up a notch by shoehorning a 7.3-liter Ford Godzilla motor instead. The massive mill is meant for the Blue Oval’s lineup of Super Duty Trucks but apparently, it fits the aging off-roader, too.

This classic Ford Bronco Godzilla was built by Matko Motors, and this particular unit that you see here is the first of its kind (VIN001), with only around 8,800 miles on the odometer.

However, despite the new mighty engine, it proved to be too noisy in ‘stock’ form, which is why the owner wanted to quiet it down a bit for a slightly quieter ride. Taming the noise from the mighty V8 falls to Exhaust Addicts, who outfitted the SUV with a custom exhaust that can be loud and proud yet nice and subtle – all with a press of a button.

The Godzilla-swapped Bronco initially came to the shop with an exhaust system that would idle at around 79 to 80 dB. However, when revved high enough, it would produce an ear-popping 125 dB, equivalent to a jet taking off from a runway or a gunshot near the ear.

To quiet down the SUV, Exhaust Addicts give it a new set of shorty headers, downpipes, vacuum-actuated cut-outs to let some of the noise through with a press of a button, and two Borla Pro-XS mufflers to help deal with the sound. The team also added two resonators by LCGP, as they fit the stock exhaust piping. Finally, they added two DC Sport exhaust tips to fit the general all-stock look of the Bronco build better.

Exhaust Addicts didn’t dyno the SUV to check its power figures after the new exhaust, but remember that the Godzilla engine makes 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque in its stock form. It can, however, handle up to 1,100 hp with stock internals and a little modification.

After all the exhaust modifications were installed and the SUV warmed up, its idling noise dropped to around 78 dB, reaching 114 dB when revved up – an 11 dB drop from before. The owner also doesn’t lose the loud factor thanks to the cut-outs, letting the Godzilla V8 breathe properly.
