2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse VIN 001 Will Sell For Big Money At Auction

All proceeds will go to charity so let’s hope the buyer has to spend big to drive home this special ride.

The very first Ford Mustang Dark Horse off the production line, VIN 001, is headed to the Scottsdale auction on January 27 with 100% of the hammer price going to the charity JDRF, a non-profit organization that funds type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

According to auctioneer Barrett-Jackson, Ford Motor Company is auctioning this 2024 Mustang Dark Horse fastback that comes with special-order equipment including Recaro seats, painted hood and accent stripes, and handling and appearance packages.

Compared to the 480-horsepower Mustang GT, the Mustang Dark Horse boasts 500 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque from a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated Coyote V8 engine. While the eight-pot mill can be paired with either a six-speed manual Tremec transmission or a 10-speed automatic gearbox, the unit in question uses the former.

As a car made with the track in mind, the Mustang Dark Horse receives an auxiliary engine oil cooler, a rear axle cooler, and brake cooling NACA ducts. These can help drivers push the pony car to the limits with lower risks of overheating, which can spoil a good and fun track day.

Other specs include a Blue Ember exterior, stiffer springs, six-piston Brembo calipers at the front, 19-inch wheels in Pirelli Trofeo RS tires, and a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster.

Barrett Jackson didn’t disclose a guide price. However, the auctioneer isn’t new to finding new homes for special production models of the pony car, such as the fifth- and sixth-generation Mustangs when they first premiered. The list also includes other Ford models like the first Bronco, Mustang Mach-E, and flat-plane crank V8 Mustang Shelby GT350, as well as the limited-production GT500 Heritage Edition.

Considering the first S650-generation 2024 Ford Mustang GT was auctioned for $565,000 last year, this more potent Mustang Dark Horse with the VIN 001 could be fetched for an even higher price tag.
