2023 Ford Shelby F-250 Super Baja Gets Improved Suspension For More Off-Road Fun
The diesel-powered truck was unveiled at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
The absence of the Ram 2500 concept from the SEMA Show is fine as truck enthusiasts were still treated with thrilling entries like the 2023 Ford Shelby F-250 Super Baja. With performance improvements, it is the closest we could get for a Raptor version of the F-250.
As a Baja-badged model, the suspension is one of its most critical features. The Fox Factory – Performance Vehicle Development team designed a new suspension that increases the ride height with a custom BDS lift system, delivers more travel, and improves off-road handling. Compared to its predecessor introduced in 2021, the new-generation Super Baja has a bigger set of 20-inch alloy wheels but still wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich tires.
The front end gets a new Raptor-like grille with a wordmark that reads “Shelby.” Right above it is a functional air induction hood with an extraction vent, while below it is a powder-coated steel bumper, also found at the back. There are also LED lighting, painted fender flares, XL power steps with rock sliders and lights, and powder-coated exhaust tips, among others.
Inside, the cabin features Shelby F-250 Super Baja-exclusive bits like full leather seat covers, accents, custom carbon fiber accents, and embroidered floor mats. Each example comes with Shelby Super Baja badges and a CSM serialized plate. Moreover, the Ford Super Duty is the first pickup in the US to offer 5G Wi-Fi capability.
The truck comes with the stock 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel, making 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an in-house 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.
Shelby American offers 300 examples only with a starting price of $154,995, including the model it is based on, the Lariat Ultimate 4×4 F-250. That is 50 more units than its predecessor and $25,000 more expensive. It also comes with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty.
“The Ford Shelby F-250 Super Baja has been one of the most popular vehicles in the Shelby lineup since we introduced it in 2021,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American.
“Lessons learned through brutal testing both on and off-road resulted in a dual-purpose vehicle that can conquer jobs requiring maximum towing capacity and then deliver serious off-road adventure. The 2023 Shelby F-250 Super Baja has the capabilities expected of a pickup wearing our legendary brand.”
